Description
Apilife Var
— Veterinary medicine for the treatment of varroasis
Apilife Var contains 4 active ingredients against varroa: thymol, eucalyptus oil, levomenthol and camphor racemica.
This mixture of essential oils sublimates within the air volume of the hive depending on the temperature, acting against varroa. For more information read the product leaflet.
When to use it
Ideally when the outside temperature is between 20-25°C and when the super is not in position.
How to apply it
Carry out the treatment by taking a strip from the bag and placing it in one of the four corners above the nest, away from the brood at the centre of the hive. Close the hive and leave it to work for 7 days. The complete treatment involves the application of 4 strips.
Our advice
For greater effectiveness, use the product after the honey harvest, when the amount of brood present is non-existent or at its lowest levels.
Do not use when the maximum daily temperature is above 30°C.
The ideal outdoor temperature for good product efficacy during treatment is between 20-25°C. Insufficient efficacy can be expected if the average outdoor temperature is below 15°C.
Do not use during honey production so as not to alter the taste.
Hives in the same apiary must be treated simultaneously to avoid looting.

Frequently asked questions
How long does the Apilife Var treatment last?
Treatment lasts 28 days.
I have started treatment with Apilife Var and the temperatures have risen, what should I do?
Temperatures above 30°C can increase stress and mortality in adult bees and brood. If these signs are noticed, remove the strips and interrupt the treatment.
How is Apilife Var stored and how is it disposed of?
The product should be stored below 25°C. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Store the product out of direct sunlight. Protect from frost. Keep the strip in the original packaging. Medicines must not be disposed of in sewage or domestic waste. Do not dispose of in water courses as it may be dangerous for fish or other aquatic organisms. Ask your vet or pharmacist how to dispose of it.
What is the best way to open the Apilife Var bag?
Since Apilife Var strips are fragile, it is recommended to open the bag using a pair of scissors or a box cutter. Furthermore, to avoid breaking the strips, it is important to handle and transport the bags with care.
Can I feed my colonies during Apilife Var treatment?
Yes. To avoid a reduction in feed intake, do not apply the strip near the feeder. However, it is recommended to minimise any disruption to the colonies during treatment.
How many bags are needed to treat one colony?
Four strips of Apilife Var per colony, i.e. two packages, are needed to carry out the treatment.
