— Veterinary medicinal product for the treatment of varroasis
Api-Bioxal eliminates varroa in a single application.
Api-Bioxal powder is highly effective against phoretic varroa mites. Studies on the mode of action of oxalic acid have indicated that its low pH is a major contributor to the acaricidal effect. Api-Bioxal powder is applicable by vaporisation or by trickling. Read the package leaflet carefully before use.
When using it
When the quantity of brood in the colony is non-existent or at its lowest levels and when the super is not in position.
How to apply it
By trickling
Pour all the powder in the indicated amount of syrup and mix until dissolution.The dosage required is 5 ml per seam (gap between top bars of frames) occupied by bees.
By vaporisation
Use an electric resistance device for vaporisation. Fill the pan of the vaporizer with 2.3 g of the product. Turn on the vaporizer following the manufacturer’s instructions.

Our advice
For greatest efficacy, the product should only be used when the quantity of brood in the colony is non-existent or at its lowest levels.
With regard to summer treatments following queen caging, highest levels of efficacy were achieved when a caging period of at least 25 days was used.
All colonies in the same apiary should be treated simultaneously to avoid reinfestations.
Do not treat hives with super in position or during honey flow intended for human consumption.
When handling the powder (both during vaporisation phase and pre-treatment
phases) wear protective mask conforming to European Standard EN149 (type FFP2), gloves and protective glasses.

How does Api-Bioxal powder work?
The active ingredient in Api Bioxal is oxalic acid, and is highly effective against phoretic varroa mites. Studies on the mode of action of oxalic acid have indicated that its low pH is a major contributor to the acaricidal effect. Oxalic acid has been shown to concentrate on mite legs and the edges of the exoskeleton, but none was detected in the alimentary system of mites. Therefore, mites are thought to receive the acid by contact.
How long does the bag of Api-Bioxal powder last once opened?
The shelf-life after first opening of the bag is 3 months.
How is Api-Bioxal powder stored and disposed of?
The product must be stored in its original packaging. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Keep container tightly closed to protect from light and moisture. Keep away from food and out of the reach of children. Medicines should not be disposed of in sewage or domestic waste. Ask your veterinarian or pharmacist how to dispose of it.
Can I prepare the solution differently from what is stated on the label?
No. The directions given result in a solution with suitable characteristics for application on bees by trickling. A solution prepared not following these directions may be counterproductive. Insufficient action or overdosing may occur.
What is the best time of year to apply Api-Bioxal powder treatment?
The best time to apply trickling or vaporised treatment is when there is a reduction or absence of brood within the hive and when the supers is not present.
Can I apply the solution by spraying?
No. The solution obtained by following the instructions on the label is safe for bees if applied by trickling, but is harmful if applied by spraying because of the concentration of active ingredient it contains.
How soon can I use the solution obtained by dissolving Api-Bioxal powder?
The solution obtained by reconstituting the powder according to the instructions must be used within 24 hours.
What type of vaporizer can I use to apply Api-Bioxal powder?
You can use an electric resistance vaporizer. It is recommended to follow the manufacturer’s instructions to achieve maximum vaporization. See the accessories section of the website.
How long should I wait after the treatment before harvesting the honey?
It is not necessary to wait from the end of the treatment until the honey is harvested. However, the treatment must be applied in the absence of the super.
How many hives can I treat with one packet of Api-Bioxal powder?
If applied by trickling, the number depends on how many inter-hive spaces are occupied by bees. In any case, the maximum dose per hive is 50 ml, therefore:
– 35g bag: treatment for approximately 10 hives,
– 175g bag: treatment for approximately 50 hives,
– 350g bag: treatment for approximately 100 hives.
If applied by vaporization, the dose is 2.3g per hive, therefore:
– 35g bag: treatment for approximately 15 hives,
– 175g bag: treatment for approximately 76 hives,
– 350g bag: treatment for approximately 152 hives.
