Our advice

For greatest efficacy, the product should only be used when the quantity of brood in the colony is non-existent or at its lowest levels.
With regard to summer treatments following queen caging, highest levels of efficacy were achieved when a caging period of at least 25 days was used.
All colonies in the same apiary should be treated simultaneously to avoid reinfestations.
Do not treat hives with honey super in position.
When handling the product wear protective gloves and protective glasses.

Frequently asked questions

How does Api-Bioxal solution work?

Oxalic acid is an organic acid that is highly effective against the foretic phase of varroa. Studies on how oxalic acid works have shown that its low pH is mainly responsible for its acaricidal effect. Oxalic acid is mainly concentrated on the mites’ limbs and at the edges of the exoskeleton, while it has not been found in the mites’ alimentary system. It is therefore thought that mites receive oxalic acid by contact.

How long does the package of Api-Bioxal solution last once opened and how can I store it?

The shelf life after first opening of the primary packaging is 12 months. Do not refrigerate or freeze the product, keep it in the original packaging. Store at room temperature.

How is Api-Bioxal solution stored and disposed of?

The product must be stored in its original packaging. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Keep container tightly closed to protect from light and moisture. Store away from food and out of reach of children. The outer wrapping of the 5-litre Ecopack can be disposed of in the paper, everything else should not be disposed of in sewage or domestic waste. It should also not be dispersed in watercourses as it could be dangerous for fish or other aquatic organisms. Ask your vet or pharmacist how to dispose of it.

Can I dilute Api-Bioxal solution?

No. The product is ready for use. The solution has the right characteristics to achieve the acaricide effect without causing side effects to bees. Improper use of the medicine may be counterproductive.

Can I apply the solution by spraying?

No. The solution obtained by following the instructions on the label is safe for bees if applied by trickling, but is harmful if applied by spraying because of the concentration of active ingredient it contains.

How long should I wait after the treatment before harvesting the honey?

It is not necessary to wait from the end of the treatment until the honey is harvested. However, the treatment must be applied in the absence of the honey super.

How many hives can I treat with one packet of Api-Bioxal solution?

The number of hives depends on how many seams are occupied by bees. In any case, the maximum dose per hive is 50 ml, so:
– 500ml bottle: treatment for approximately 10 hives;
– 5L container: treatment for approximately 100 hives.

Is it necessary to heat the solution before applying it?

No, it is not necessary to heat or warm the solution before applying it.

Are there temperature restrictions for the use of Api-Bioxal?

There are no temperatures that limit the use of the product. The ideal conditions for the application of the treatment are the reduction or absence of brood and the absence of the honey super.

Can I inspect hives after treatment?

As a precautionary measure, it is recommended to avoid manipulating the colonies in the days following treatment.
